Festivals are incredible gatherings full of music, connection, and excitement, but they also generate significant amounts of CO2 and waste, particularly campsite waste. This is a challenge often beyond the control of festival organizers, which is exactly the problem we aim to solve: reducing campsite waste and creating sustainable solutions.
This summer, we partnered with Kultlab for the first edition of Wilde Weide and, a week later, Wildeburg. Knowing that we couldn't do this alone, we met well before the summer to discuss our plans and refine our approach.
Wilde Weide served as a pilot for us, a chance to test our booth setup and campaign strategy. It turned out to be invaluable preparation for the hectic Wildeburg festival. Despite the challenging weather, we connected with festivalgoers and raised awareness about campsite waste. Awareness is, after all, the first step toward meaningful change.
Our impact was clear: we managed to save around 120 tents and prepare them for a second life. We also inspired countless visitors and ran a successful campaign with the help of another partner. While there were still at least hundreds of tents left behind that we couldn’t take home, this marked an important first step. We're proud of the waste we managed to reduce, even though we're not waste-free just yet.
A special shout-out to our team and the amazing volunteers who made this possible. And yes, we also had our fair share of festival fun. We’re proud of what we accomplished together. It was a summer to remember!
